The Annual Forum of EUSALP, which usually brings together 700 to 800 people over 3 days, and which was to take place in Nice this year, was held on 10 December last year over half a day in Marseille and online. A real challenge!
But the youth had the best part with a 2h30 sequence during which the presentation of the finalist projects of the competition "Pitch your project" was a very well appreciated time, so much the quality of the projects and the enthusiasm of the young people were there.
Among the 5 projects presented, 3 were awarded a prize after a vote by the participants.
The first place went to the Terra Preta in the Alps project, a project aiming at the production and use of "biochar" to enrich vegetable gardens. Biochar is charcoal of vegetable origin, produced with wood from the Alpine region that cannot be sold or has fallen down due to bad weather. This charcoal has multiple benefits: it captures CO2, improves water retention and stimulates the plant's immune system.
The other two winning projects concerned respectively the marketing of regional products in short circuits via vending machines placed in villages - 100% Alps - and the design of 100% natural soles made from pine, cork and flax - Bergsohle project.
Once again, this competition aimed at young people between 16 and 25 years of age proved that young people are full of ideas and have solutions to offer to face the challenges of climate change in particular. But the youth dynamic does not stop there: in 2021 SUERA will see the implementation of its Youth Council, a new body that will be able to give its opinion and make proposals on all EUSALP's work.
The summer camp in France and the launch of the online platform will also be two important events in 2021.
