Meeting topic:

The first regional Forum for Sustainable Development will take place digitally from 19th to 21st November 2020, with three days of institutional plenary events in the morning, thematic events in the afternoon and presentation of experiences and testimonies. In addition, some related initiatives will take place in the previous days, from 16 to 18 November.

In the institutional landscape - national and European - the Regions play a fundamental role in the definition of strategies and in the concrete implementation of measures, even more necessary to address the critical issues and challenges recognized at a global level, but which require the implementation in intervention measures that they involve local authorities, operators and citizens, with an ability to dialogue with the territory and to interpret its needs and potential.

With the approval of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, to which Italy has also joined, the sustainable development goals have become a universal reference for the definition of policies in the economic, social and environmental fields, which can guarantee a balance between three dimensions of sustainable development.

The issue of sustainable development is a challenge to the ability to govern a fair transition towards more sustainable and widespread growth models, taking full advantage of the prospects of the Green Deal promoted by the European Commission.

Lombardy Region proposes a moment of reflection on a common vision of sustainable development and on the role that the institutions must play within it, with particular attention to the regional ones and to the coordination between levels of government.

The Forum is an opportunity to strengthen the involvement of the production system and the social world, a key element of the sustainable development strategy, which has found its first concrete application with the Lombard Protocol for sustainable development.

In light of the new context generated following the pandemic, the comparison will focus, on the one hand, on the need to ensure a more stable balance between man and environment / nature, on the other, the ability to relaunch the economy and immediate recovery, given the situation of economic and social uncertainty.

The Forum aims to be a moment of reflection and proposal for the future, which the Lombardy Region opens to all interested parties.

In particular, on 19th November there will be also a session dedicated to Eusalp (in English), in order to understand what is the role of the Regions in defining and developing policies and actions for sustainability. Political representatives from different regions tell their experience of promoting sustainable development through regulations programmes, investment, training and partnerships with the stakeholders.

On November 20, the Sustainable Development Forum will be in connection with the Milano Green Forum.
