The Innovation and Research Award is the highest award that KWF annually awards on behalf of the Province of Carinthia in the field of Innovation & Research. Awards will be given to innovations already on the market as a result of completed R & D projects. The prize is endowed with 49,000 EUR, whereby there is a compulsory prize money deduction for large enterprises. He is awarded in three categories. A special prize is awarded in the » Innovation Culture « section.

Internal and external influences determine the innovation process of companies. The starting point is the strategy, the culture and the structure, which are shaped in the companies and thus affect their ability to innovate . External conditions such as the market, leaps in technology, educational and research infrastructures, as well as regulatory regulations are of limited scope for a company but can be used purposefully. Business management is challenged to take advantage of these leeway, get the innovation momentum going and keep it going.

The Innovation and Research Award of the Province of Carinthia pays tribute and recognition to these people. It recognizes the renewal, the courage, the ideas, the initiatives, the technologies, the products, the services as well as their procedures and implementations.

From the circle of winners and nominees, the jury sends three Carinthian companies to the State Prize Innovation of the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Economics (BMDW). In addition, one company each is proposed for the two special prizes ECONOVIUS (Community Prize of the BMDW and the Economic Chamber Austria in the SMEsegment ) and VERENA powered by VERBUND as the representative of Carinthia.

The award ceremony for the 2018 competition took place on November 29, 2018  in the presence of LH Peter Kaiser and technology officer LHStv. Gaby Schaunig with great public interest in the Lakeside Science & Technology Park in Klagenfurt.
