EUSALP 2019: THE VIOLINS FROM CREMONA, UNESCO HERITAGE, OPEN THE ITALIAN PRESIDENCY

The violin making from the city of Cremona, recognised as  intangible heritage of UNESCO, with the violin signed by Giuseppe Guarneri "del Gesù", known as 'Prince Doria' (1734), will open the  Italian presidency of EUSALP next February 28th in Milan. The precious instrument in the hands of the master Marco Bronzi will be one of the protagonists of the political Kick Off scheduled in Milan, at the Lombardy Palace on 28 February and 1 March 2019. The meeting will be attended by the representatives of the 7 Governments and 48 European regions being part of the  Macroregional Strategy for the Alpine area recognized by the European Commission.
Prince Doria is considered one of the best concert violins by Guarneri “del Gesù". Considering the robust thickness of the plates, its reputation comes from the fact that over time, unlike other ancient instruments, it has not undergone interventions to reduce and redistribute the thicknesses. The  fund interior contains original traces of the toothed planer used by "del Gesù".
The event is made possible thanks to the great availability of the municipality of Cremona and  the violin Foundation Museum  "Friends of Stradivari".
The exhibition is highly significant not only for its aesthetic and musical value, but also for its symbolic value. In fact, the art of violin making represents well the know-how of the Lombardy craftsman; the wood, with which the ancient violin is built, is the symbol of the forests of the Val di Fiemme in Trentino and Cadore. The programme of the performance will focus on the music of Niccolò Paganini: the great Genoese composer who brought the name of the Ligurian capital throughout the world and in the history of music and lutherie.
This is how many of the Italian regions part of EUSALP  are represented: Lombardy, Liguria, Trentino and Veneto. Not only that. There will also be a tribute to other EUSALP regions, Germany and France, with compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Jules Massenet. In the musical line up also pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, the Italian musician par excellence, and Edward Elgar.
