AG3 Success Story
Discover Mountain Jobs: a future rooted in higher ground
In July 2024, fourteen young people from across the Alps came together in the Vercors mountains, not for a retreat, but to reimagine what life in the Alps could look like. Over three days, they cooked with local ingredients, trekked with guides, explored forestry, debated climate change, and met people building real careers in remote, resilient places.
This was Discover Mountain Jobs (DMJ). At its core is a bold aim: to help young people see mountain life not as something to leave behind, but as a viable, rewarding future.
Faced with youth migration and aging populations, Alpine regions need more than policy—they need connection. DMJ delivers that through immersive experiences with local professionals and hands-on learning tied to real opportunities. The model is designed to grow. Adaptable across regions and sectors, DMJ is setting the stage for a new Alpine narrative, where staying means thriving, not settling.
