On 23rd and 24th of October 2017160 experts from Bavaria and other EUSALP countries discussed their experiences concerning protection forests in the Alpine region in respect of flood protection and heavy rain as well as exchanged experiences on risk governance.
The conference was held in Bad Reichenhall upon invitation of EUSALP AG8, the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry as well as the Bavarian State Ministry for Environment and Consumer Protection.
The conference was jointly opened by the Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Consumer Protection Ulrike Scharf and the Bavarian State Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry Helmut Brunner. Both ministers highlighted in their welcome speeches the extraordinary importance of healthy and stable forests for the protection from natural hazards. Without the protection function of alpine forests the expenses for technical protection measures would rise exponentially. Subsequent talks of experts were given emphasizing networking, examples of good practices, experiences and new developments in the field. In conclusion a panel discussion was focused on future challenges especially climate change and the resulting needs for action.
On the second day excursions in the surroundings illustrated the topics and gave room for further discussions and exchange of experiences.
